The inaugural Queeritiba Nights dance party

The inaugural Queeritiba Nights dance party

On Friday, Oct 25, Pride Center FXBGG, a division of FAHASS, kicked off our exciting new event series, Queeritiba Nights, with an unforgettable Halloween dance party! Hosted at the welcoming and vibrant Curitiba Art Cafe, the event brought together members of the queer community and allies for a night of creativity, fun, and celebration.

From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., the cafe pulsed with lively music from our talented DJ, Byron, from Upchurch Entertainment Co, setting the perfect mood for dancing and camaraderie. Attendees, decked out in their best Halloween costumes, enjoyed an evening filled with drinks, music, and community spirit. We even had a 3-song drag show intermission! The highlight of the night was undoubtedly our costume contest, hosted by the always fabulous local queen, Shenandoah. Participants had a chance to strut their stuff and show off their spectacular costumes in hopes of winning the grand prize—a spooky tumbler and a $200 gift certificate to Fredericksburg Tattoo Works!

The turnout was incredible, with 75 tickets sold and nearly $1,000 raised to support Pride Center FXBG and further our mission to positively impact individual and community health. The energy and enthusiasm of our attendees truly made this inaugural event a resounding success. We are beyond grateful for everyone who attended, as well as our dedicated partner and sponsor, Meza, who helped make Queeritiba Nights a reality. And for those who couldn’t make it, keep an eye out—this is just the beginning! Our next Queeritiba Nights event will be in 2025, and we can’t wait to see what surprises are in store.

Colorful Success: FAHASS’s 6th Annual Rainbow Run Lights Up the Community

Another Successful Year

On September 15, 2024, the Canal Path in Downtown Fredericksburg came alive with vibrant colors and community spirit as FAHASS (Fredericksburg Area Health and Support Services) hosted its 6th Annual 5K/10K Rainbow Run. With a perfect mix of cloud cover keeping temperatures comfortable, runners took off from 415 Elm Street at 7 am, embarking on a journey that was as meaningful as it was fun.

A Rainbow of Support

This year’s event saw an impressive turnout, with participants from all walks of life coming together to support FAHASS’s mission to positively impact individual and community health, particularly for LGBTQ and minority health populations. The atmosphere was electric, with music filling the air and the scent of free coffee from Curitiba Art Cafe wafting through the starting area.

Triumphant Returns and New Victories

The competitive spirit was alive and well, with familiar faces leading the pack. For the second year running, Dr. Dzibela of Sight Studio Optometry clinched first place in the 5K race, while Alex Hoskins reclaimed their title in the 10K event. Their dedication and repeated success truly embody the spirit of the Rainbow Run.

More Than Just a Race

Participants weren’t just treated to a well-organized run; they experienced a full-fledged community celebration. Runners donned white race shirts, which quickly became canvases for the rainbow of colored powder at the finish line. The post-race festivities included an array of vendors, snacks, and even handmade chocolates – a sweet nod to last year’s chocolate theme. Megan Samples from the Continuum of Care and co-owner of Curitiba Art Cafe inspired runners with a powerful speech, reminding everyone of the importance of community support and inclusive healthcare.

A Community United

Their contributions, along with the enthusiasm of every participant, volunteer, and spectator, made this event truly special. Thank you to everyone who made the 6th Annual Rainbow Run a resounding success. Together, we’re not just running a race; we’re paving the way for a more colorful, inclusive, and healthier future.

Looking Ahead

As we bask in the afterglow of this year’s Rainbow Run, we’re already excited about what next year will bring. Mark your calendars for the 7th Annual Rainbow Run coming next fall – it promises to be bigger, brighter, and more impactful than ever!

Celebrating Pride: A Colorful Month of Community and Joy in Fredericksburg

As the rainbow flags are carefully folded and the glitter settles, we look back on a Pride month filled with vibrant celebrations, meaningful connections, and unforgettable moments. This June, our community came together in a spectacular display of love, acceptance, and visibility, with a series of events that truly embodied the spirit of Pride.

A Month of Festivities

Our Pride month kicked off with a bang at the Neon Nights Pride Kickoff on June 1st. Curitiba Art Cafe was transformed into a pulsating dance club, with its back patio becoming the unexpected heart of the party. The glow party, complete with a DJ, drinks, and dancing, was a brand new experience for many attendees. “People were truly surprised to find an event like this in town and made sure we knew how much they wanted to see it continue,” noted organizer Amanda Strawn, reflecting the overwhelmingly positive feedback received.

The celebrations continued with the Mrs. Roper Romp on June 7th, a collaboration with the Downtown Dolls as part of First Friday Sip & Stroll in Downtown Fredericksburg. Attendees embraced the 70s theme, dressing up as the iconic Mrs. Roper from “Three’s Company” and bringing a touch of retro flair to the streets, raising money for Pride Center FXBG.

One of the highlights of the month was undoubtedly the Back to the 90’s Pride Prom in collaboration with Fredericksburg Pride on June 14th. Hosted at the Downtown Library, this nostalgia-fueled evening of dancing and community bonding proved once again why it’s become such a beloved event since its debut last year.

For those who prefer a bit of friendly competition with their Pride celebrations, Pride Trivia at Red Dragon Brewery on June 18th was the perfect event. This collaboration with Red Dragon Brewery and Trivia Trey brought together trivia buffs and Pride enthusiasts for an evening of fun, learning, and fundraising.

Rounding out the month was the Pride Night Friday Fireworks Game with the Fredericksburg Nationals on June 21st. This event was particularly significant, offering visibility and acceptance of the LGBTQ community on a hugely recognized local platform. Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that Pride Night will be “even bigger and better next season.”

Community Impact and Support

These events were more than just celebrations; they were beacons of visibility and acceptance in our little town. We saw a mix of new and returning faces at all events, and importantly, we managed to connect new individuals to vital FAHASS resources.

All proceeds raised through Pride month events went to support Pride Center FXBG, a division of FAHASS. The Pride Center is entirely community supported, making these fundraising efforts crucial to its continued operation and growth.

The success of this year’s events has us SO excited for the future as we hope to repeat all of these events again next Pride month.

As we reflect on this wonderful month of Pride, we’re filled with gratitude for our community and excitement for what’s to come. Here’s to many more years of celebrating love, diversity, and pride in Fredericksburg!
